Concept master study from Guild Wars. I say study cause it isn't copied 100% verbatim. Spent a little over 20 hours on it. I altered the composition slightly to fit my interests better but overall I think I got pretty close to the original. This is the level I have to hit now with my own concept illustrations and now I think I understand how to get there. Just have to show it. Going to start a personal piece to be the first. Original is on the left.

Sistine Chapel and Monet gallery

Sometimes you can find art at such an unexpected places.
For example, these couple of links i found on russian fan-site of Juventus Football Club.

1. Very interesting version of Sistine Chapel by Vatican itself :) Who knew that thet have domain zone ".va". I spend half of hour there, and i will return there time and time again, i'm sure.
And be aware of music on that link, it starts to play automaticly.

2. I think most of you saw that brilliant Monet gallery. Beautifull gallery, very great presentation of his works.
Again there is music right at start there.

Digital Photography for Beginners

Perhaps one of the most daunting aspects of photography is learning how to play with all the features one can find on a SLR/DSLR camera.

And most likely, the case with not being able to understand how shutter speed or aperture modes work, or ISO and etc. is not because you don't want to learn how to use it, but it's just that you don't own a camera that you can practice with!

So, this is the next best thing I'll offer: a DSLR camera simulator that allows you to fiddle with the various settings of the camera and witness the results of such a setting.

Of course the picture is fixed and is in no way better than learning from a real thing, but this I believe is a good introduction for me, or anyone who would like to just understand the functions on the SLR.

But with all that said, having any camera is as good as any because like we learned in photography class - shooting anything with whatever resources you have is better than nothing.

Things to Listen to to get pumped up!

Some times while drawing i find it you need a little companion. be it the sweet song of birds outside, or listening to heavy metal on your iPod. Today I would like to share with everyone a little something to add to that list, I often like to listen to people talk and draw

Sidebar Nation

the first is a cool podcast where you can listen to folks talk about art.. and give interviews to people like Brad Rigney
, Kekai Kotaki, James Jean, and loads of other awesome artists

Dave Rapoza's Livestream

Originality the home of the Crimson Daggers, now its more of Dave showing off some of his paintings he is working on, and can interact with him and ask question and he has a beautiful voice :)

Algenpfleger's Livestream

Just recently started doing normal livestreams and showing his process, quite a cool guy on the stream, check him out as well

The Core Skills of VFX

While this may not be the traditional and 2d painting type information you are looking for. This Core Skills handbook seems like it is aimed at anyone that wants to work in the games and movie industry. I think alot of people are wanting to work in games at TAD, and theis a whole course for 3d entertainment as well besides the 2d route. This may come in handy for alot of people.

Core skills of VFX.

The section on matte painting and environments for VFX could be interesting to some of the 2d people that want to get into this field.

How to Raise Your Profile as an Artist

Are you looking to find work as an artist but don’t know where to start? You’re not alone.G’day all! It’s been a long time without a post, but I’ve got a very good reason! I’ve been at the 2010 Blender Conference. Meeting people, getting ideas and giving talks! Today I’ve uploaded the first of my presentations, about ‘How to Raise your Profile as an Artist’. I hope you enjoy it!
Every year thousands of students graduate from college hoping to find a job in the 3d industry but land flat on their face.
Why? The simple fact is, most artists suck at marketing. I don’t say that to be mean, I say that because I used to be there before slowly digging my way out.
In this presentation I’ll share with you the techniques I learned through extensive marketing classes, but geared specifically for artists.
In this presentation you will discover:
  • Why most artists are unemployed
  • The two big myths that artists follow
  • A 6 step guide to fast track your career
  • Simple steps you can start doing today to increase your exposure
